MIC Madrassah Disciplinary Policy
MIC Madrassah Disciplinary Policy
1. Introduction
The aim of this disciplinary policy is to establish a respectful, and conducive learning environment for all students at MIC Madrassah. The policy outlines the expectations for student behaviour, procedures for addressing disciplinary issues, and the consequences for misconduct. All students and staff are expected to follow these guidelines.
2. Expectations of Student Behaviour
Students at MIC Madrassah are expected to:
- Respect for Elders: Treat all members of the Madrassah community, including staff, and visitors, with courtesy, respect, and dignity.
- Respect for The Masjid: Take care of the Madrassah premises, including classroom materials, resources, and the premises.
- Punctuality: Arrive on time for classes and activities.
- Dress Code: Follow the Madrassah’s dress code, ensuring that attire is Shariah compliant ISLAMIC clothing. Topi(hat) and Jubbah/Silwar Qamis. This can be in any cultural colours and styles fit for boys. All black, loose and plain Khimar/Headscarf and Abayah for girls.
- Active Participation: Engage actively in all academic and extra-curricular activities, demonstrating commitment to learning and personal development.
- Behaviour in Class: Maintain good behaviour during lessons, avoid disruptive actions, and respect the authority of teachers and other staff members.
3. Types of Misconduct
Misconduct may include, but is not limited to:
- Verbal Misconduct: Abusive, disrespectful, or inappropriate language.
- Physical Misconduct: Fighting, bullying, or any form of physical aggression.
- Disruption of Activities: Interruption of classes, activities, or any Madrassah events.
- Dishonesty: Cheating, plagiarism, or misrepresentation.
- Violation of Dress Code: Non-compliance with the prescribed dress code.
- Theft or Vandalism: Stealing or damaging Madrassah property or the property of others.
- Disrespect to Staff: Failure to respect the authority of staff members.
4. Disciplinary Procedures
Step 1: Verbal Warning
The first step for minor misconduct will be a verbal warning by the teacher or staff member involved. The student will be informed of the inappropriate behaviour and the need for correction.
Step 2: Written Warning
If the behaviour continues or is deemed more serious, a written warning will be issued. The student and their parents/guardians will be informed of the incident in writing, with a clear explanation of the behaviour and the expected corrective actions.
Step 3: Meeting with Parents/Guardians
For more serious or repeated misconduct, a meeting will be scheduled with the student’s parents/guardians. During this meeting, the student’s behaviour will be discussed, and a plan for improvement will be established. This may include behaviour contracts or additional support.
Step 4: Suspension
In cases of severe misconduct or failure to improve behaviour, the student may face a temporary suspension from the Madrassah. Suspension will be accompanied by a formal meeting to discuss the student’s behaviour, consequences, and potential for re-admittance.
Step 5: Expulsion
In extreme cases of misconduct (e.g., violence, severe dishonesty, or repeated failure to improve), expulsion from the Madrassah may be considered. This decision will only be made after a thorough review and consultation with relevant stakeholders, including the student’s parents/guardians.
5. Roles and Responsibilities
- Students: Students are responsible for adhering to the behaviour expectations outlined in this policy and taking responsibility for their actions.
- Parents/Guardians: Parents are encouraged to support their child in meeting the behaviour standards and collaborate with the Madrassah staff to address any issues.
- Staff Members: Teachers and staff are responsible for maintaining discipline, addressing misconduct, and implementing this policy consistently.
- Madrassah Administration: The administration is responsible for overseeing the implementation of this policy and ensuring fairness and consistency in its application.
6. Special Considerations
In cases of conflict or serious issues, the following will be considered:
- Support for Students: Counselling or behavioural support will be offered to students who require it to help them improve their behaviour.
- Cultural Sensitivity: The Madrassah will ensure that all disciplinary actions respect cultural and religious sensitivities.
- Restorative Practices: Where appropriate, the Madrassah may engage in restorative practices to repair harm and restore relationships between students.
7. Appeals Process
If a student or parent/guardian disagrees with any disciplinary action, an appeals process is available. The process involves:
- Step 1: The student or parent can request a meeting with the Headteacher to discuss the issue. After which a final decision will be made by the Madrassah Committee.
8. Conclusion
The primary objective of this disciplinary policy is to foster a respectful and productive environment at MIC Madrassah. While discipline is necessary for maintaining order, it is equally important to provide opportunities for students to learn from their mistakes and grow into responsible, respectful individuals.
